Ryan Kovar signs with Wheeling Jesuit University

Senior Ryan Kovar signed his National Letter of Intent with Wheeling Jesuit University, a Division II school in Wheeling, West Virginia.  Ryan will be a 3 year Varsity player for the Bengals (Catcher/DH).  Ryan was a 2nd Team All-CRBC player and the 2009 Coaches award winner.

In 26 games last spring Ryan hit .355 with 2 Home Runs and 21 RBI.

Joe Bova Student of the Week


Congratulations Joe on being named the Parma Sun Post Student of the Week.  Joe is currently a senior and 2nd year player on the Varsity Baseball team. Joe will play 1B/OF and pitch for the team this coming spring.

Meet Coach Sliwinski

Position: Head Varsity Baseball Coach
Grade School: St. Columbkille
High School: Padua Franciscan
College: Cleveland State University

Favorite MLB Team: 1978 Los Angeles Dodgers

Coach Sliwinski enters his 16th season as Head Baseball Coach for the Bengals.  His high school coaching career started in 1992 at Cuyahoga Hts. High School.  From 1995-1998 he was the head coach at Padua Franciscan before joining the Bengals staff as a varsity assistant in 1999.  Sliwinski was named the North Coast League Coach of the Year in 1995 and the Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2004. His over-all coaching record stands at 298-223-1.

From 1995-1998 Sliwinski spent his summers coaching and conducting clinics for the East-West Baseball Ambassadors.  Traveling to Puerto Rico, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Russia to teach the game of baseball. 

Coach Sliwinski is also very active in the state and local coaching associations.  He served as past president of the Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Association, he still serves on the executive board of the association..  Coach is still on the Hall of Fame committee board member for the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association and Poll Voter for the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.  For 10 years Coach Sliwinski worked for the Cleveland Baseball Federation as a field monitor, equipment manager and camp/clinic instructor.  A founding member of the Diamond Connie Mack League, Coach Sliwinski has served various duties for the amateur baseball league.

Meet Coach Nolan

Position:  Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach
High School: Cleveland John Marshall
College: Ohio Wesleyan

Coach Nolan adds nearly 40 years of coaching and teaching experience to the Bengal staff.  Coach Nolan has been a teacher and coach at Benedictine High School since 1981.  He has coached Baseball, Football and Wrestling.  Coach Nolan shares the off-season conditioning and weight training program with Coach Ryzner.

Coach Nolan has worked many summers with the Cleveland Baseball Federation as a camp and clinic instructor.  He will work primarily with the Bengals outfielders and catchers. He will also will teach the entire program proper base running skills. On game day he will coach first base and help with the defense.

Meet Coach Tomc

Position:  Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach
High School: Parma Sr.
College: Bowling Green State University
Favorite MLB Player: Mickey Mantle
Favorite MLB Team: Cleveland Indians

Coach Tomc brings over 30 years of teaching and coaching experience to the Bengal staff.  From 1979-2006 he coached JV and Varsity Baseball, JV and Varsity Softball and Freshman Girls Basketball all at Parma Sr. High School.  Coach Tomc has 113 Varsity Baseball coaching victories as a head coach.  He was selected to coach the Mizuno All-State Series (1999),  elected to the Parma Sr. High School Hall of Fame in 2000 & the NEOBCA Hall of Fame in 2013.

Coach Tomc is in his 9th year with the Bengals.  He is the programs hitting instructor and will work with the middle infielders.  Coach Tomc is the program's lead statistician and in charge of the team's pre-game schedule; he will serve as Coach Sliwinski's bench coach.

Meet Coach Mordarski

Position:  Assistant Varsity

Coach Mordarski enters his 10th season as a Bengal assistant coach.  He had an excellent High School playing career.  He was a 1st Team All-North Coast league selection, achieved Academic All-State status and was a Greater Cleveland All-Star.Mordarski played for Coach Sliwinski at Padua Franciscan from 1995-1997 and was a 2-time Team Captain.  At BW he continued his playing career as a pitcher and outfielder.  Coach Mordarski has volunteered for numerous community baseball leagues as a coach and camp instructor.


Meet Coach Ryzner

Position:  Head JV/ Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach
High School: Benedictine '95
College: Allegheny
Favorite MLB Player:  Kenny Lofton
Favorite MLB Team: Cleveland Indians

Coach Ryzner enters his 10th year at Benedictine High School as a teacher and coach. He was a 2-sport athlete at Benedictine and continued his college education and baseball playing career (outfielder) at Allegheny. Coach Ryzner was an assistant coach for 2 years at Cleveland Hts. High School before joining the Bengals staff.  Coach Ryzner has various coaching responsibilities within the program as well as handling all administrative duties for the teams.  He will be in charge of off-season strength and conditioning program.

In the off-season Coach Ryzner helps to organize and run the Bengals annual Golf-Outing and has volunteered for the Cleveland Baseball Federation as a camp/clinic instructor.

This fall Coach Ryzner will be the new head golf coach.  You can follow the golf program here.

Meet Coach Farrell

Position:  Assistant JV Baseball Coach
High School: St. Ignatius
College: St. Vincent College

Coach Farrell enters his 4th year as a teacher and member of the Bengal coaching staff. Coach Farrell will work primarily with the freshman program, teaching our younger players about the game of high school baseball. Coach Farrell also helps organize the Bengal Baseball annual youth clinic and assists Coach Ryzner with the administrative duties for the baseball program.  Coach Farrell is an huge Arena Football League fan and a current season ticket holder for the Cleveland franchise.

Meet Coach Chase

Position:  Freshman Baseball
High School: Chanel
College: Bowling Green State University
Favorite MLB Player: Enos " Big Country" Slaughter
Favorite MLB Team: Cleveland Indians

Coach Chase brings over 40 years of baseball experience to the Bengal staff.    He has been a teacher and coach at Cleveland Central Catholic, Chanel, SVSM and also served 3 years as the head baseball coach at Cuyahoga Community College. He won 446 games in his high school varsity coaching career and over 100 at the college level.  In the summer of 2012 he was selected to the North East Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Chase is entering his 7th season with the Bengals.

Meet Athletic Trainer Sarah Royan

Position: Athletic Trainer
High School: Laurel School
College:  Marietta College, California University of Pennsylvania
Favorite MLB Team:  Cleveland Indians
Favorite MLB Player:  Cliff Lee


This is the second year Sarah is the trainer for the Benedictine Athletic Department.  She majored in Sports Science at Marietta and has a Masters of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania.  Sarah has a state license in athletic training; she is also a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Performance Enhancement Specialist.

Sarah currently works for University Suburban Sports Medicine Center as well as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Beaumont High School and Ursuline College.
