Congratulations Mark Flachbart !!

Mark was chosen to play in the 57th Annual GCBCA All-Star Game played at Berea-Midpark High School on May 23rd.  Mark will continue his academic and athletic career at CCC-West.

Baseball Update

Varsity games on as scheduled.  Today at WRA 5pm.  Saturday at Hawken (DH) at 2pm.  Players need to arrive at Hawken by 12:45pm ( No Bus ).

JV: games have been canceled for today and Saturday.  Team will practice Friday after school.

Freshman:  game vs Beachwood still questionable.  At this time were waiting for a final decision on our field.  Players will be notified after school  - if canceled they will practice.

Varsity game canceled at NDCL.  Re-scheduled for tomorrow at NDCL 5pm.  Team will practice at school today.

The freshman game has been canceled due to poor field conditions ... the team will practice on Monday after school.

Friday Games canceled vs Orange

Both the JV & Varsity games on Friday have been canceled.  No make-up date yet.

The Varsity team will practice on Friday from Noon-2pm at school.  If its not raining we will practice on the turf.  If raining, we will stay in the gym.

JV players are welcome to attend practice with the Varsity if you can make it to school.

Meet Coach Lynch

Michael Lynch
Grade School: Holy Redeemer
High School: Lake Catholic
College: University of Rio Grande
Favorite MLB Team: Cleveland Indians
Favorite MLB Player: Jose Altuve

Coach Lynch joins are staff after a very successful college playing career.  He will assist our freshman team and also work with all of our middle infielders.  After college he played  in the Frontier Professional Independent League for the Schaumberg Boomers.  He has coached various age levels in local travel leagues.

Coach Kovar joins the Bengals staff this spring after finishing a successful college playing career at Lourdes University.  He will mainly work with our catchers .  On game day he will rotate between all three teams.  This spring he will graduate from Cleveland State University and will continue playing baseball this summer in a local adult league.

Game Canceled vs CCC

Both the JV & Varsity games vs Cleveland Central Catholic have been canceled due to weather on Wednesday April 8th.  No make-up date has been agreed upon yet. 

The Varsity team will practice tomorrow at Triple Play.  We have the facility from 9:30am-11am.  JV players are welcome to attend if they can make it.

Saturday Game Update .....

The Varsity game on Saturday has been changed.  We will now play Holy Name at 10am.  All players need to be at Nobby's Ballpark by 8:15 - we will take BP at 8:30.

Bengals win season opener !

The 2015 season opened yesterday and the Bengals swept Trinity.  The Varsity opened with a 4-2 victory.  The JV team won 13-5.

Senior Collin Pecoraro pitched 6 innings for the win.  He struck out 12 batters, didn't walk a batter and scattered 7 hits while only giving up 2 runs.  He also added an RBI single.  Senior Mark Flachbart pitched the 7th inning for the save.  Pecoraro earlier in the day announced that he will continue his education and baseball career at Heidelberg.

Freshman Levi Pokersnik had two hits, scored two runs and stole a base.  Freshman Jordan Barnett added a hit, scored two runs, stole a base and had an RBI.  Sophomore Marlin Moore added a double, sacrifice fly, stole a base and had an RBI.
Next Up:  the Bengals play East Cleveland Shaw at Nobby's Ballpark on Saturday. First pitch @ 11am.

The Varsity & JV scrimmage on Friday has been canceled.  The teams will practice on Friday at Triple Play.  The teams will leave at 3:20pm - return by 6pm.

Saturday:  Varsity practice at 8am-10am

All (3) levels will practice on Monday.

As of 1pm, the Varsity team will travel to Brecksville & will scrimmage (outdoors) and the the FR/JV teams will stay at school and practice ( 3:15-4:45 ).

Monday Update:

The Varsity team will travel to Rocky River and practice indoors w/the RR baseball team.  We will leave at 3:20pm.  We have the gym at RR until 5:45pm.  We will be back at school by 6:15.

JV/FR will practice today at school until 4:45pm

Monday March 23rd Schedule

JV & Freshman will practice at school.

The Varsity team will travel to Rocky River.  We will know by 1:30pm if we will scrimmage outdoors or indoors (cage scrimmage).  Bring warm clothes !!!

All three levels need to be prepared daily for indoor or outdoor practice .... dress warm !!!!!

All levels be prepared to practice.  Depending on the weather all three levels will practice at school today.  If we can't get outside we will use the gym and send a group to Triple Play.  

Varsity Team: if we stay at school P/CA should be prepared to stay after for meetings and to throw a bullpen session.

Collin Pecoraro receives Student-Athlete Award

The baseball season officially started last night with our players/parents meeting. Keeping with tradition we honored a member of the team from the senior class who has the highest grade point average. This year Collin Pecoraro was honored.  He is a 4-year Varsity player, Team Captain and carries a 4.3 grade point average.  Presenting the award from the class of 2003 was Frank Perhacs. He also was a Student-Athlete Award winner, 3-year Varsity player and Team Captain during his playing days for the Bengals.

Practice Schedule: Monday 3/9/15

Varsity & JV baseball teams will leave at 3:20pm and practice at CWRU.  We will practice until 5:30 and return at 6pm.  Catchers DO NOT NEED THEIR GEAR.  We will work defense and we will hit.

All players will take the bus - to and from CWRU.  If you drive to school ... you must move your car to the perimeter after school ( before we leave for practice ).

Locker Assignments:  the coaching staff will be in the locker-room after school to assign lockers. Bring a lock !!!!

All player profile sheets and concussion paperwork is due on Monday.

From Sunshine to Snow .... Opening day Around the Corner

Coach Sliwinski & Coach Tomc recently returned from their annual spring training baseball trip to sunny Arizona.  Daily temperatures were in the 80's as major league camps opened. The coaches had a front-row seat watching the Indians, Rangers, and Dodgers throw bullpens sessions, take batting practice, and field ground balls for the first time in preparation for the upcoming season. The coaches also had the chance to see the beginning of the college baseball season. On opening night they watched the # 1 team in the country, TCU, play the # 17 team in the country Arizona State.

While at the Texas Rangers camp the coaches had a chance to spend a few minutes with Rangers All-Star pitcher Matt Harrison & catcher Chris Gimenez.  Both players were amazed at the fact that we actually have to practice indoors and that when our season opens there is a good chance the temperatures will be lucky to be in the 40's - the life of a major league baseball player !!!

On February 23rd the Bengals opened their spring training.  They didn't have sunshine and green grass but indoor batting cages and the gym will get them prepared for the season.  Seventy-five student-athletes participated in the first week of practice.  Once again the Bengals will field three levels of play, participate in the North Coast League, and compete against a tough non-league schedule.

The Bengals are looking forward to a successful 2015 season.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at a ballgame this spring.  Put your winter coats and sunglasses on and join us for a game. The Varsity team opens their season on April 1 vs Trinity at Nobby's Ballpark.

Collin Pecoraro Named to Exclusive List

Collegiate Baseball released its state by state list of players to watch in 2015.  Pecoraro was named to this list of outstanding players to watch in the publications annual high school preview.  The top players across the USA were named to this exclusive list.

Pecoraro ( RHP/1B ) returns for his 4th year as a member of the Varsity Baseball team and 2nd as a Team Captain.

Congratulations Coach Sliwinski

Congratulations to Coach Sliwinski for being elected to the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (NEOBCA) Hall of Fame.  Full story at the Lake County News-Herald.

Meet Coach Prevesk

College:  B.A. in Physical Education Mount Union College '99
Teaching:  Physical Education Teacher for Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy 1999-present 
Favorite MLB Team:  Cleveland Indians
Favorite MLB Player: Kenny Lofton

This is the first year Coach Prevesk will join the Benedictine Bengals as a coach.  Coach Prevesk played football and baseball while at Benedictine.  He played football as a wide receiver at Mount Union.  While at Mount Union he won two Division III National Championships in 1996 and 1997.

Coach Prevesk coached Benedictine Football as an assistant in 2000-2002,  assistant coach for Cleveland Heights H.S. 2009-2013.  Coach is currently the  assistant football coach for the Bengals since 2014 and a CYO 8th grade basketball coach (Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy)  2012-present.

Coach Prevesk enjoys watching sports, coaching, spending time with family.  He is married to Maria and they have three kids- Joseph, Alyssa, and Gino.
